I don’t read reviews

… but in this case I’ll make an exception! My essay about the mysterious epidemic of cycling injuries, Breaking with Tradition, has received its first review by a reader.

Knowing that the style of my essay was out of the ordinary, I’ve been worried that it might not be well-received. People get used to reading a certain attitude, structure and content and my essay definitely does not follow any of those patterns found in my book. It could easily upset those who might have expected more of the same.

So I’m relieved by what a reader has posted on the essay’s page on Amazon UK website (click here for links to the right Amazon page in other countries). Here’s the review:

‘Not quite what I was expecting from the author of “Cycling Science”, but highly entertaining none the less. No deep enquiry here into the physics of two-wheeled transport, rather a mix of autobiographical recollection, humour and skulduggery. A fun bedtime read. Let’s hope this essay is just the first of a series.’

Not bad for my first essay. It’s enough to make me want to sit on my handlebars and pedal backwards.
